Libby Znaimer is joined by the Zoomer Squad including Marissa Lennox, Chief Policy Officer at CARP, David Cravit, Vice President of Zoomer Media, and Peter Muggeridge, Senior Editor of Zoomer Magazine.

Today’s discussion: CARP is sending a message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada’s premiers: fix the country’s healthcare system now. When it comes to issues like hospital wait times, and available beds, Canada’s medical system is lacking. To make matters worse, Canada pays more for health care than other countries where the situation is much better. For example, in Tokyo, Japan’s capital, there are 13.1 beds per thousand people, but in Toronto the number is staggeringly low at 2.5 beds. Another statistic: In Venice, Italy the average wait time for hip replacement surgery is 49 days. Comparably, in Vancouver it’s 180 days.

Also being discussed: It’s tax season, and time to navigate through the often complicated tax filing system. We know that while the CRA is pushing for electronic filing, many Zoomers still heavily rely on the more traditional paper method. The CRA has made big changes to the personal income tax return form.
