Since we last met, we got the shocking news that Canada has the highest rate of COVID 19 deaths in long-term care in comparison to the rest of the Western world! That statistic confirms what we have already seen happening in our communities. Our political leaders have promised there will be reviews and change. But the problems that brought us to this place have been festering for years through successive governments of different stripes. Now, part of public discussion has turned to the question of whether we should get rid of for-profit nursing homes and bring long term care under the Canada Health Act.
