Libby Znaimer is joined by Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod of BodyBreak.

Canada’s favourite TV fitness couple has revealed that their show, BodyBreak, was created in an effort to combat racism. Hal revealed, this week, that he experienced racism early on in his career as a Black man. One of those incidents involved TSN who Hal sought to work for as a sports reporter. Initially, he says, representatives of TSN were enthusiastic to have him come aboard, however, he later received a phone call that upper management was not going to hire him since they already had a Black reporter on the network and that “they don’t want to have two Black reporters.” TSN has since sent out a public apology to Hal citing it as “a shameful part of our past”. Hal joins us to share his stories of experiencing racism, details the importance of BodyBreak in fighting against racism and also, together with his wife Joanne, discuss the importance of his wife in supporting him.
