With London already tense amid growing fears of retaliation for several recent assaults which have been attributed to Islamist extremists, UK authorities say they were treating an early morning attack today near a mosque in London as a “possible” act of terrorism. Today, just after midnight in north London, a van rammed into a group of pedestrians near Finsbury Park Mosque. One person has died at the scene, with ten wounded. Concern is mounting with the authorities claiming it was not immediately clear whether this attack was responsible for the man’s death. Britain has been shaken by a series of attacks recently, and some are questioning whether the authorities and the media have been quick enough to call out the assault today as an act of terrorism — although Prime Minister Theresa May stated that the attack was declared a terrorist incident within eight minutes. Terrorism expert Ross McLean joins Libby to weigh in.
