Research from Health Canada warns vaccination rates for Canadians who are most at risk of developing influenza-related complications, remain dangerously low. Flu shots for the 2017-18 flu season are now available in Ontario, for high risk individuals. However, seniors, pregnant women, children, and vulnerable adults all fail to meet the Health Canada’s vaccination goal of 80%. This is despite the fact 70-90% of flu cases can be averted through vaccination. So why aren’t Canadians getting the message that spending a few minutes getting the flu shot can save a few weeks of misery down the road?
