Research from Health Canada warns vaccination rates for Canadians who are most at risk of developing influenza-related complications, remain dangerously low. Flu shots for the 2017-18 flu season are now available in Ontario, for high risk individuals. However, seniors, pregnant women, children, and vulnerable adults all fail to meet the Health Canada’s vaccination goal of 80%. This is despite the fact 70-90% of flu cases can be averted through vaccination. So why aren’t Canadians getting the message that spending a few minutes getting the flu shot can save a few weeks of misery down the road? We speak with our trusted contributor from the Ontario Pharmacists Association Jaspreet Dhaliwall about why it’s important to get the flu shot, especially for Zoomers.
