November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month. Pancreatic Cancer is the only major cancer with survival rates still in the single digits. Libby Znaimer is one of the very few very fortunate survivors. The survival rate has increased to 8% – which means out of 100 people diagnosed, 8 will be alive 5 years later. Since her diagnosis 9 years ago scientists have been researching her case to try to nail down the scientific explanation for her good fortune, which is why Libby chose to update her her documentary “Cancer saved My Life”. Libby spoke to the Doctor who saved her life, Dr. Steven Gallinger, a renowned pancreatic cancer surgeon and a clinician-scientist, who is also the head of hepato-biliary surgery at University Health Network.
