Ontario has unveiled a Fair Auto Insurance Plan, establishing standard treatment plans for sprains & whiplash, the most common injuries incurred, and set up independent examination centres in order to cut costs of lawyers sparring with insurance companies over treatments. The plan will use postal code pricing when it comes to setting insurance rates, and there will be a serious fraud office that focuses on tracking down people who abuse the system. New estimates put the cost of auto insurance fraud in Ontario as high as 2 billion dollars a year. We spoke to Rhona DesRoches, Board Chair for FAIR, (Fair association of victims for accident insurance reform) and Steve Kee, Director, Media & Digital Communications at Insurance Bureau of Canada about it.
