Toronto’s board of health has voted unanimously to ask city council to push the province to stop planned changes to public health across Ontario. Doug Ford’s PC’s want to reduce the number of health units to 10 from 35 and reduce spending by $200 million dollars a year. Robert Kyle, the President of the association of local public health agencies says the numbers don’t add up. Kyle says boards are on the front line of chronic and infectious diseases and manage food safety and immunization. The province defends the move, claiming amalgamated boards can respond better to public health emergencies. Libby speaks with Joe Mihevc, lecturer at U of T and former Chair of the Board of Health
