Bird migration is underway across North America. Billions of birds will be making their way north to breeding grounds. Twice a year, millions of birds meet an early end when they are drawn into cities by lights and then collide with reflective glass windows. Given its location, Toronto is particularly notorious for its high number of bird strikes. An estimated one million birds a year die here. For 25 years, FLAP (the Fatal Light Awareness Program) has been helping rescue birds and advocate for solutions to buildings with reflective windows. FLAP’s founder Michael Mesure continues to work with organizations across the country to help reduce the number of bird strikes.
