Over the weekend another deadly shooting at a place of worship. This time, a synagogue near San Diego on Saturday, where a 19 year old gunman opened fire killing a woman and wounding three people including the Rabbi. Investigators say the 19 year old gunman opened fire as approximately 100 people were worshiping the ending of Passover. Some say the attack could have been worse, since it appears the gun jammed after the rabbi was shot at. “I couldn’t see his eyes. I couldn’t see his soul,” the Rabbi said. He raised his hands to protect himself and lost one of his fingers in the shooting. The attack came exactly six months after a mass shooting in a Pittsburgh synagogue that claimed 11 lives, including a woman who was originally from Toronto. The suspect in yesterday’s synagogue shooting in California may be charged with a hate crime as well as homicide.19 year old John T. Earnext is also being investigated in connection with a March 24th arson attack on a nearby mosque. Earnext had posted hate speech online just one hour before the San Diego attack. A funeral service for Lori Gilbert-Kaye, the woman killed in the shooting will be held today. Kaye, 60, died taking bullets for Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, who was evacuating children from the synagogue after gunfire broke out.

Last week, hundreds of Christians were slaughtered in churches in Sri Lanka. This month, three black churches have been burned in ten days in a single Louisiana parish, last month, many were killed in mosque attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand. Just this morning we learn of yet another attack on a place of worship where gunmen killed four worshipers and a pastor in an attack on a church in Burkina Faso which is the latest violence to rock the formerly peaceful West African nation. Sunday’s raid took place in the small northern town of Silgadji near Djibo, the capital of Soum province. “Unidentified armed individuals have attacked the Protestant church in Silgadji, killing four members of the congregation and the main pastor. At least two other people are thought to be missing.
