Toronto city councillors are coming out against the proposed public health cuts by the Doug Ford PCs and they are not alone! Now, members of the Mayors and Regional Chairs of Ontario have joined the opposition to the proposed cuts. A memo from the group is calling on the Ford government to stop plans it says will have a significant negative impact on the health, safety and general well-being of the residents of Ontario. Toronto Public Health Chair Joe Cressy plans to host two fellow health board chairs, from Kingston and Peterborough today, to detail objections to the planned cuts, which city staff say will cost the City of Toronto 1 billion dollars over the next 10 years. A spokesperson for Health Minister Christine Elliot says the government has every expectation that public health units will continue to be properly funded as municipalities are empowered to have a stronger role in the delivery of public health.
