Huawei executive Mung Wang-Joe is back in a British Columbia court room today as the province’s Supreme Court sets key dates for her extradition to the U.S. The BC Department of Justice says the appearance is also an opportunity for Mung’s lawyers to discuss the scheduling of any pre-hearing applications they want to bring forward. Mung was arrested in December at Vancouver International Airport at the request of the United States which is seeking her extradition on fraud charges. She has been free on bail and is living in one of her two multi-million-dollar homes in Vancouver while wearing an electronic tracking device. Mung and Huawei have denied any wrong doing. And Five different Canadian federal ministers have requested conversations with top-level Chinese officials since the Vancouver arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on Dec. 1. None has been successful. Canadians are also wondering how the U.S. trade talks will affect Canada. Libby speaks with Hugh Stephens, Distinguished Fellow, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and the Vice Chair of the Canadian Committee on Pacific Economic Cooperation (PECC) to get his insight.
