Yesterday, China suspended imports of Canadian meat on the ground that its authorities don’t trust Canadian assurances about the quality of its exports. This development comes after China previously obstructed shipments of Canadian canola, peas and soybeans. This move comes on the eve of Prime Minister Trudeau’s trip to the G20 in Japan. Canada has been on China’s radar since Canadian authorities arrested Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on December 1st in Vancouver at the request of the U.S.
