Overcrowding in Ontario hospitals reached a record high in the month of June….when it took an average of 16.3 hours for patients to be admitted to hospital from an Emergency Room.
The Ontario Hospital Association says this was the worst June on record for so-called “hallway medicine” since the province began collecting the data about 11 years ago.
One major issue that hospitals continue to grapple with…are ALC or “alternative level of care” patients…who don’t need hospital care, but can’t find long-term care beds.
The OHA says in the month of June alone, some 45-hundred patients were occupying hospital beds when they didn’t need to.
Together, Libby and her guest discuss the issue.
