Libby Znaimer is joined by Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga and Sergeant Brett Moore of Toronto Police Traffic Services.
Mississauga is making changes to its traffic laws. The general committee for the City of Mississauga has supported changes to the current traffic by-law. It will see speed limits lowered across 10 different neighbourhoods from 50 km/hr to 40 km/hr.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie explains that this reduction in speed limits will be safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
Also, starting today, a traffic pilot project is being implemented on Queen Street. Cars illegally parked on this street between Fallingbrook Road and Roncesvalles will be relocated to a side street. This, instead of being towed, ticketed or impounded, which is the current policy.
Mayor Tory says that the move is being done to deal with preventable delays. The pilot project will run for a total of six weeks.
