11:30am | Cheryl Grace, spokesperson for SOS – Save our Shores.
TOPIC – SOS, Save our Shores, Concerned citizens of Saugeen Shores, opposed to location and storage of nuclear waste in their community.

INFO – WHAT THE NWMO ISN’T TELLING YOU – QUESTIONS WE MUST ASK

  • Our Mayor and Town Council are working with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) on a plan that could result in burying ALL of Canada’s high-level radioactive waste (used nuclear fuel) in Saugeen Shores.
  •  This waste would be buried in a Deep Geological Repository (DGR) on a site yet to be chosen in our community.
  • This plan will require many trucks carrying radioactive waste from reactors across Canada as well as the likelihood that radioactive waste will be shipped through the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence system.
  •  The Saugeen Shores mayor and council have described this plan as an “opportunity“. Council and the NWMO are highlighting the “benefits” of highly radioactive nuclear waste shipped to and buried in our community. However, the town and NWMO have not told us everything about the environmental, economic and health costs of building a massive nuclear waste site near our homes, families, and the shores of Lake Huron.
