A four alarm fire caused a portion of a building to collapse this morning on the corner of Broadview and Gerrard in Toronto’s east Chinatown.

The blaze broke out at about 5:00 a.m. in the upper part of a commercial building.

The whole building quickly became engulfed, and the front portion collapsed at about 6:30 a.m.    By that time all residents of the building and neighbouring buildings had been evacuated.

About 70 firefighters battled the blaze; two were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire.

The fire marshal is investigating
