A group of hospitals in the GTA has turned Quebec’s controversial proposed restrictions on religious symbols into a recruitment drive.

Lakeridge Health has put out an ad saying they don’t care what you wear on your head, they just care what’s in it.

Lakeridge needs to fill 230 positions at its hospitals in Oshawa, Whitby, Port Perry, and Bowmanville.

Ontario Health Minister Deb Matthews says she likes the message. She says Ontario celebrates diversity, and what Lakeridge is saying in its ad speaks for all of us.

Lakeridge CEO Kevin Empey says he and his staff debated the campaign for a week. They were concerned there might be a backlash to the ad, but Empey says the response has been “amazing.”
