KAMAL AL-SOLAYLEE TAKES $10,000 TORONTO BOOK AWARD

A memoir of the experiences of a gay Arab man leaving his family and culture for a better life here in our city –  has won the  Toronto Book Award.

Writer Kamal Al-Solaylee has won the $10,000 prize  for “Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes.”

It’s the first time winning the award after five nominations for Al-Solaylee.

He says he  hopes the book will inspire readers to think about the stories and history of Arab people who appear in the news.

Al-Solaylee is a journalism professor at Ryerson University and he has he has dedicated his book to the city of Toronto .

“Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes” is published by Harper-Collins.
