Just a day before she could win the Nobel Peace Prize, a 16 year old Pakistani girl is awarded the European Parliament’s top human rights award. The Sakharov Award goes to schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai and carries a $65,000 purse. She’s the teenager who survived a Taliban assassination attempt last year which then drew attention worldwide to the struggle for women’s rights in her homeland. She chronicles the attack and its aftermath in her book, “I Am Malala.”
