Rob Ford’s sobriety coach says he loves his new job. Since Toronto’s mayor returned from rehab two weeks ago, Robert Marier has been by his side. The 49 year old Montrealer has been living out of a suitcase in a Toronto hotel and says he has no regrets about working with Mayor Ford. He told the Globe and Mail, he takes “the hard cases that other people will run away from.” Marier says the job has nothing to do with his political views. He just feels that “everyone deserves a chance.” Marier is a recovering alcoholic and cocaine addict himself. He says he used for 23 years and has been sober for 10 years. Marier has no formal clinical training, instead using his own experience when working with clients. He works through a company that hires him out and says he’s helped hundreds of people in the five years he’s been coaching. Marier wouldn’t comment on how long he plans on working with the mayor but says he’ll “stay as long as it takes.”
