The week-long Toronto Police pedestrian safety blitz has ended with some 51 accidents and two fatalities. Toronto traffic Services Constable Clint Stibbe, says a lot of the accidents are caused by drivers not adjusting to changing conditions. However, Stibbe says pedestrians are also to blame for trying to dart between cars and not crossing the road at intersections. Last year at this time Toronto had recorded 32 pedestrian fatalities. To date this year, the figure stands at 25. Ironically, just hours after the safety blitz ended, a women suffered minor leg injuries when she was struck by an car at King and Spadina.
