Winter is still more than a month away, at least on the calendar, but it appears to have arrived in the Canadian and American Rockies, the U.S. Upper Midwest and Northern Ontario where they’re getting the first icy touch of Arctic air flowing south. As Albertans recover from two days of snow and plunging temperatures, up to 40 centimetres of snow is expected to hit parts of northern Wisconsin Tuesday. Up to 60 centimeters could hit Michigan’s Upper Peninsula by Wednesday morning. In northeastern Ontario some communities received between 15 and 30 centimetres of snow overnight. The wind chill this morning in Sudbury was minus 10 (14 F.) and the community has been placed under a freezing rain warning.
