Most of the biggest movie theater chains in the U.S. won’t be showing Sony’s film “The Interview,” – the Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy concerning a plot to assassinate North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un.

Computer hackers have warned moviegoers to stay away from screenings of “The Interview, – and the isolationist nation is believed to be behind the hackers – who call themselves “Guardians of Peace.”  North Korea has condemned the movie – calling it an “act of war” and threatening retaliation.

Hackers say there will be attacks if the film is screened : they’re the same individuals who stole and exposed private information from Sony Pictures.

Here in Canada …Cineplex has postponed showings of “The Interview”- which was scheduled to come out on Christmas Day.

A statement from the company says it “takes seriously its commitment to the freedom of artistic expression, but we want to reassure our guests and staff that their safety and security is our No. 1 priority. We look forward to a time when this situation is resolved and those responsible are apprehended.”

Cineplex operates 161 theatres in Canada, or nearly 80 per cent of the country’s movie market.
