The Finch West light rail transit (LRT) line will roll down the track first while the Sheppard East line is on hold.

The province first committed to funding the $1.2-billion Finch line in 2009 and Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca says the government’s ready to follow through now.

Construction on the 11-kilometre, 18-stop line will begin next year and is expected to be done by 2021.

A planned LRT for Sheppard, also announced in 2009, will not see construction start until the Finch line’s up and running.

Work on the Sheppard line was initially expected to begin in 2017 and be done by 2021.

The Finch West LRT, which is being entirely paid for by the Wynne government, will run from Humber College’s North Campus to the planned Spadina subway extension.

The Finch, Sheppard and Eglinton Crosstown, currently under construction, are three lines part of Metrolinx’s $50-billion big move.
