Scottish writer Ali Smith has won the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction for her time-shifting novel “How to Be Both”. The judges hailed the work as “tender, brilliant and witty” as a visibly shocked Smith was presented with the $55,000 prize at London’s Royal Festival Hall last night. As a result of the win….its reported that publisher Penguin – Random House is printing 40 thousand more paperback copies of the book.
Meanwhile, Canada’s wordsmiths will come together tonight for the Griffin Poetry Prize gala in Toronto. The annual bash will see two poets, one Canadian and one international win $65,000 apiece. Canadian finalists include Vancouver’s Jane Munro for “Blue Sonoma”.
