Thousands of peaceful people gathered in New York today – inspired by the memory of John Lennon.

Yoko Ono had called for people to come together in Central Park and set a world record – for the largest group of human bodies forming a peace sign.

As it turns out – they didn’t break the record.

But the throng still celebrated Lennon’s upcoming birth anniversary.

The late Beatle would have turned 75 this coming Friday.

Guinness World Records says today’s gathering brought out more than 2,000 people – But 5,000 or more needed to turn out for an official record.

Lennon was murdered in 1980 in front of his apartment building on Manhattan’s west side – across from the park.
