Toronto city council has voted to go ahead and build six SmartTrack stations – that’ll run on existing GO Transit lines.
The six include St. Clair-Old Weston … King-Liberty … East Harbour … Gerrard-Carlaw … Lawrence-Kennedy and Finch-Kennedy.
Council also defeated a motion by Michael Ford to bury the future Eglinton West LRT – which is different than the currently under-construction Crossstown light rail project.
Staff have warned burying it could cost billions.
Councillor Ford and deputy mayor Stephen Holyday warn a street level LRT would cause congestion.
A working group will keep looking at grade separation and tunneling options on the future Eglinton West LRT.
