WILD BOARS ON THE RUN IN NORTH PICKERING

They may be cute and cuddly in cartoons, but there are warnings that wild pigs could begin destroying local wildlife and ecosystems after several were spotted near Pickering.

Ontario is working on trapping a group of Eurasian wild boar, first seen in the area earlier this month with several additional sightings of the same group in the area since then.

Ministry staff say they’re attempting to trap and remove the group since they were reported.

Wild pigs are not native to Ontario and have high reproductive potential and spread rapidly, which means they will compete with local wildlife for food, water and space.
