OTTAWA SENATOR'S OWNER DIES AT 62

Toronto businessman and owner of the Ottawa Senators hockey team, has died.

Eugene Melnyk was 62.

The announcement of his passing was made in statements from his family and the Senators last night.

His family says Melynk died of an illness which he had faced with determination and courage.

He had undergone a liver transplant in 2015.

Melnyk founded the drug maker Biolvail Corporation.  He was a well known philanthropist involved in many initiatives including supporting St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Help Us Help the Children, a humanitarian organization that benefits orphans in Ukraine.
