PRIME MINISTER WANTS FIXES BUT NOT CONTROL OF LONG TERM CARE

The pandemic has revealed cracks in Canada’s long-term care system. That message from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who says that while health care falls under provincial jurisdiction, the federal government has a responsibility to step in to make sure seniors are protected.

“Obviously, I respect provincial jurisdiction in running those institutions but we’ve seen that those institutions haven’t done a good enough job in this pandemic particularly, but in a long standing challenge and this is a moment for us to step up,” Trudeau told reporters.

He says it would be a massive failure if politicians from different levels of government are not able to come together to address the problems.
