Groovy‘ was such a cool word – at one time.  Like many fads and fashions, ‘groovy’ became un-cool pretty fast, and you’ll only hear it nowadays from a fatherly (or grand-fatherly) ex-hippie – maybe ?  But for a while, back in the Swinging Sixties, it was good to be ‘groovy’. This Sunday I’ll take us back to that time with several of the songs that featured the ‘G’ word. You might even quote that old Rascals’ song – ‘Groovin’ on a Sunday afternoon … I can’t imagine anything that’s better…

One of the groovy bands of The British Invasion – The Kinks – are the next in my year-long spotlight on ‘the greatest groups of our time – in alphabetical order’. And the Canadian counter-part to that spotlight brings us to Edward Bear.  The Toronto-based band took their name from Winnie the Pooh (I’ll explain in the show) … and had a good run of hits in the 1970s.

And, as with every edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’, I’ll start the show with ‘The Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond‘ … an exciting hour that brings us back to those malt-shop days, when a couple coins in the jukebox would bring us our favourite songs – that now form some of our fondest memories.  I bet I’ll be playing some of those very same songs on this Sunday’s show.

So join me … it’ll be cool, and hep, and yeah – ‘Groovy’ too.
