‘It’s Summertime, Summertime…’

Just like the old song goes: ‘It’s summertime, summertime, sum-sum, summertime…’ – it’s mid-July, and high-time for a Vintage Favourites celebration of the greatest summertime songs.  We might still be limited in where we can go for a summer holiday, where we can drive, cruise or fly … but there’s no limit to where we can go in our fantasy. Let’s go places with the best summer songs.
In the show’s first hour (2-3pm.) we always explore the events and personalities who made headlines ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘. It’s been ten years since we lost Amy Winehouse and 55 years since the strange and mysterious death of Bobby Fuller. And this week’s ‘Story Behind the Song’ looks at the classic that changed everything when it went to #1 in July of 1955 – ‘Rock Around the Clock’. It was the first rock’n’roll song to top the Billboard chart – and there’s a fascinating story behind it; including a couple earlier songs with the same title, and an earlier version of ‘Rock Around the Clock’ itself – which I’ll also play.
So slather on the sunscreen, pour a tall cool one, and turn on your radio for the ‘Summertime Edition’ of Vintage Favourites, this Sunday at 2.
