This year marks the 25th anniversary of Canada’s Walk of Fame – placing those plaques into the sidewalk along King Street’s ‘theatre row’ between John and Simcoe.  They’ll have to get a bigger sidewalk pretty soon with this year’s ‘mega-induction’ of 13 legendary rock acts of the 1970s and 80s; they’re giving it a new nickname: ‘Canada’s Rock of Fame’.
I’m excited about playing a song from each of the 13 artists: April Wine, Trooper, Loverboy, Glass Tiger, Max Webster, Chilliwack, Pagliaro, Platinum Blonde, Lee Aaron, Rough Trade, Lighthouse, Prism and Parachute Club. You may well have seen some (or perhaps all) of these acts in their hey-day; or perhaps ‘their big hair-day’ !! (I couldn’t resist)
It just so happens that this week also marks a major milestone birthday for a Canadian rocker who helped pave the way for all those ‘guitar-slingers’ who followed. The great Randy Bachman – of Guess Who and BTO fame – is turning 80.
And in the show’s first hour called ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits’ I’ll have several landmark songs including one that held the #1 spot for a record-setting 17 weeks – the longest run at the top till the new millennium. Two folk songs that hit the top of the pop charts in the 50s; the first protest song to hit #1 in the 60s; the first #1 hit for a solo Diana Ross after leaving The Supremes.  And I’ll top it off with ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Hey Jude’ – the Beatles’ longest #1 run among their 20 chart-toppers.
I hope you’ll join me this Sunday (Sep.24th) between 2:00 and 4:30pm.
