Next week marks the 60th anniversary of that ‘dark day in Dallas’ that everyone of a certain generation still remembers vividly. President John F. Kennedy’s assassination sent shock waves – not only around the world and deeply into our psyche – but also reverberated through the decades and generations. The shock, the questions, the doubts, and feelings of betrayal and loss have faded, but not disappeared.
For this 60th anniversary I’ve located some poignant audio clips and songs including those by Frank Sinatra and Connie Francis, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and Stevie Nicks; each in its own way will bring back powerful emotions. I hope you’ll join me in ‘remembering JFK’.
I’ll also have a half-hour birthday salute to our good pal Matt Dusk, about to turn 45. And, in the show’s first hour: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ you’ll hear the Ink Spots and Dinah Shore, John Lennon, Elton John and Isaac Hayes; plus ‘The Story Behind the Song’ ‘MacArthur Park’ – the disco version by Donna Summer. Has it really been 45 years since that was #1 on the Hot 100 !
That’s all coming up on ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday (Nov.19th) from 2:00 to 4:30pm.
