REMEMBERING ROY ORBISON

One of the best-loved artists of the rock’n’roll era was Roy Orbison – the balladeer with the operatic voice – some called him ‘The Caruso of Rock’. He died 35 years ago next week (Dec.6th 1988).  I’ve gathered a dozen songs from Roy’s entire career; from his very first recordings at SUN, through his classic hits of the early 60s, to his late 80s comeback. A highlight will be the closing song from his life’s final live performance just days before his unexpected death.

I’ll also salute Andy Kim on his upcoming birthday. And in the show’s first hour – it’s a special UK edition of ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘.  I’ll play eight songs that were each #1 this week in the UK music charts; a few of them were #1 on Billboard’s charts too, but several were not, and may be real surprises for you. The list includes some of the biggest UK artists of all time: Beatles, Stones, Elton, Queen and George Michael too.  And I’ll tell you ‘The Story Behind the Song’ ‘Mull of Kintyre’ – Paul McCartney’s song that remains one of the biggest-selling song of all time in the UK.

I hope you’ll tune in this Sunday – December 3rd – from 2:00 to 4:30.
