Uber customers here in Canada will soon start receiving emails from the ride-sharing company telling them if a 2016 data breach compromised any of their personal information.

Alberta’s privacy commissioner has ruled that those affected are at risk of sigificant harm, and that Uber must inform them.

About 57million accounts were affected worldwide.

Atlthough an Uber corporate spokesman says they disagree with the ruling, they will begin sending email notifications to customers and drivers across Canada within a few days.

Uber says it conducted a trhorough investigation and notified Canadian privacy commissioners as soon as it found out about the breach.
