Standard time has returned.

Much of Canada made the switch from daylight time with clocks falling back an hour as of 2 o’clock Sunday morning.

The exceptions include most of Saskatchewan, parts of northeast BC and small pockets of Ontario and Quebec where it is always standard time.

In Toronto, both police and fire officials issued safety reminders.

Toronto Police say that every year when the clocks change they notice an increase in the number of collisions on the roads, especially ones involving pedestrians.

Motorists and pedestrians were being asked to be extra alert in the coming days with the extended hours of darkness in the morning.

Meanwhile, Toronto Fire is reminding residents that now is the time to check out their smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors.  Not only should you be changing the batteries, but you should check the expiry date on both devices to ensure they are still operational.
