Minister of Health Christine Elliott has announced a new health care plan for the province to address hospital stays. The legislation provides more in-home care and a personalized-health approach for each patient. Minister Elliott says the current system is too disconnected and the goal is to integrate Home and Community Care. Under the bill, patients will get the hours of support based on need.
Last year, more than 700,000 patients received home care and over 600,000 used community support services, like meals on wheels and transportation. But it’s complex and Elliott says the legislation will help patients better navigate the care they need. Elliot says a community care system designed in the early ’90s needs to be updated to help improve patient flow in hospitals and to ensure Ontario patients receive the right care in the right place. The legislation is called Connecting People to Home and Community Care Act.
