Another report on the COVID 19 crisis in long term care shares the same findings of other reports, that Canada has failed to protect seniors. The just released report by the Royal Society of Canada found the pandemic exposed many long-standing deficiencies in the system.

The group’s task force of scientists and researchers say the failures are complex but rooted in systemic attitudes about age and gender. It found 81 per cent of Canada’s COVID-19 deaths have come in long-term care homes, far higher than reported in other countries. Their recommendations include new national standards for care homes, better data collection and infection-control standards, as well as higher pay, and more full-time positions for workers.
