If you’re 80-plus living in the City of Toronto and wondering why people the same age are already getting their shots in other parts of the GTA, John Tory is offering an answer as to why this is the case.
Toronto’s Mayor explained on Wednesday, Toronto has far more front line healthcare workers to vaccinate, including half of the province’s doctors, and yet this city doesn’t get any extra vaccine.
“So what’s happened in some of the other places, they’ve finished doing the healthcare workers and other people like that because they have fewer of them, so they can take the stock of vaccine they have and move on to do the 80-plus,” Tory told CP24, “And the second thing we have chosen, I think wisely, to be part of the provincial registration and scheduling system.”
And the mayor points out it won’t be up and running until March 15th, with residents 80 and over beginning to receive COVID vaccines the third week of March.
Peel Region has moved ahead with a program after opening registration to residents 80-plus on Monday night.
Those who managed to get an appointment turned out at William Osler’s Brampton Civic Hospital site on Tuesday for their first shot.
