Mackenzie Health is apologizing after officials at its vaccine clinic at the Cortelluci Vaughan Hospital instead gave saline shots on March 28th.
While saline, used to dilute the vaccine before its given, does not cause any harm, Mackenzie Health says it should not have happened.
The individuals were contacted to have them tested for anti-bodies so as to identify those who needed to be re-injected with vaccine.
The incident’s prompted a review of procedures and Mackenzie Health says additional safeguards have been implemented to prevent this from happening again.
Meanwhile, as of tomorrow, York Region’s expanding vaccines to residents 60+ and those 35 and older in five high priority areas (L4L, L6A, L4K, L4J and L3S postal codes).
