The day before new restrictions and measures are to take effect in Ontario, the province is reporting at least 11,352 new infections, however hospitalizations and ICU admissions are rising.
There are 2,226 fewer new cases than the day before, but 1,290 are hospitalized with COVID; an increase of 58 while 18 more have been admitted to intensive care for a total of 266.
Toronto has the most new cases – 2,480 – nearly one-thousand more than Peel Region with 1,486 then York Region with 1,059.
The next closest is Durham Region with 635.
Halton Region is four spots back with 466.
Given Ontario recently changed guidelines to limit who qualifies for a PCR test, the total number of new infections provided by the government likely does not paint an accurate picture.
In announcing the measures taking effect Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford said he had seen modelling suggesting the province could see hundreds of thousands of new cases a day in the coming weeks.
