Richmond Hill Councillor David West seems to have a strong election night lead in the race for Richmond Hill’s new mayor.
With all 44 tabulators having reported late Monday, West held 33.55% of the unofficial vote count.
With over 13,000 votes, West was leading his closest competitor, fellow councillor Godwin Chan (26.13%), by some 2,800 votes.
The late results on the city’s website are not official and no one has claimed victory so far.
There were nine candidates jockeying to replace former mayor Dave Barrow, who announced in September that he’d be stepping down from his role to focus on his family, after a medical absence.
The polls closed in the by-election at 8:00 p.m. Monday.
With 38,958 votes cast in the race, it made for an unofficial turnout of about 32%.
