Russian soprano Anna Netrebko plans to return to the stage in May.

The 50-year-old  Netrebko paused her career shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, calling on Moscow to end what she called a senseless war of aggression and telling her fans that it was not the time for her to be making music.

She issued a statement Wednesday that she is not a  member of any political party and is not allied with any leader of Russia, but acknowledged and regretted that her past actions or statements could have been misinterpreted.
