The day was set aside by Intel, the processor people. It occurs on the first Thursday of May to address the critical need for solid passwords. It is also designed to educate about the importance of strong passwords and why everyone should change their passwords once every few weeks.
Even if you think your password is strong enough, the experts says it needs to be changed on a regular basis so even if your passwords are leaked in a data breach, a new, stronger password can avert access to your personal information.
The experts in online security say you should World Password Day as your cue to immediately change the passwords of your emails, social media accounts, and most importantly, accounts storing your personal information. And they add, the best way to do that is to use a password manager.
