Zoomers continue to get vaxxed-up against COVID-19.

Close to half of all Toronto residents 60 and older have received a fourth dose of COVID vaccine, a month after eligibility was opened for this age group.

A news release issued by the City of Toronto Friday says 48.5 percent of Torontonians who are 60-plus have received their second booster, or 4th shot, with more individuals in this demographic becoming eligible everyday.

This percentage is actually approaching the share of eligible Toronto residents 12 and over who have received their third dose or first booster, which currently stands at 57 percent.

“This is great work by Team Toronto. Thank you to every eligible resident who has stepped forward to get the protection of a fourth COVID-19 vaccine,” Mayor John Tory said in the release. “As more residents become eligible in the weeks ahead, we are ready to keep delivering those vaccine doses and continuing our world-leading vaccination efforts and outreach initiatives across the city. If you’re eligible for your fourth dose, please get vaccinated as soon as possible.”

Mayor Tory points to research that suggests booster shots, both the 3rd and 4th doses, provide almost 100-percent protection against COVID related hospitalization.

Toronto Public Health says that there are about 250,000 Torontonians who are currently eligible for a fourth dose. Book a vaccine dose by clicking here.
