It’s municipal election day in Ontario, with voters set to cast ballots in 417 municipalities across the province.
Polls in Toronto open at 10am Monday and close at 8pm.
Identification is required when voting.
You are asked to bring one piece of ID showing your name and Toronto address.
Your voter information card that you received in the mail does not count as identification.
Voters may mark an X for mayor, city councillor and school board trustee.
Key races to watch in the GTHA include Brampton, where Patrick Brown is seeking re-election as that city’s mayor.
Brown’s main challenger is Nikki Kaur, who was a senior staff member with the City of Brampton.
San Grewal with The Pointer in Brampton told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, it’s turned into a tight race.
“Anecdotally, it actually seems like Niki Kaur has a very good chance. It’s what we’re hearing from our reporters who are on the ground and for people who’ve gone out door knocking for candidates and from readers who are engaged with The Pointer quite closely is that there’s a real appetite for change,” Grewal explained.
In Hamilton, Former Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is attempting to start a new chapter in her political career running for mayor.
Former Ontario Liberal Leader Stephen Del Duca is also seeking a political comeback in a bid to become mayor of Vaughan.
In Milton, Gord Krantz is seeking a fourteenth term as mayor. The country’s longest serving mayor has three challengers.
And in Toronto, John Tory is looking for his third term as mayor.
Both the CARP mayoral debate here at the ZoomerPlex and the Toronto Region Board of trade debate allowed voters to hear the policies of some of Tory’s challengers, most notably Gil Penalosa, Chloe Brown and Sarah Climenhaga.
Once the polls close at 8pm, join Libby Znaimer and Marissa Lennox and their panel of political experts for Election Night at the ZoomerPlex.
