Iranian shops in Tehran’s historic Grand Bazaar and elsewhere in the country have closed their doors amid nationwide protests.
Two prominent soccer players have also stated that they will not be attending the upcoming World Cup due to the protests.
The shop closures on Tuesday coincided with calls for a three-day national strike to commemorate earlier protests against Iran’s theocracy in 2019 that resulted in a violent crackdown by authorities.
However, despite activists recording at least 344 deaths and 15,820 arrests so far, this round of protests following the September death of a 22-year-old woman previously detained by the country’s morality police has continued.
